The GPS antenna for our AIS transceiver is mounted under the deck behind the instrument panel, it works fine.

Power Failure

We experienced occasional power failures during the RBI in the Summer which we put down to low battery levels, but its been getting worse over the last week or so and goes off for seconds, minutes or an hour sometimes if a light or equipment is turned on. It happened again this morning , battery vol...

I forgot to mention that the repaired spinnaker didn't last all that long but while in Lerwick Harvey Bowden had offered to loan us the spinnaker from his D35 and that was waiting for us in Lowestoft.

The leg to Lerwick was quite eventful. We had to sail south from Barra to clear the Hebrides and then head out to St Kilda which is 40 miles further out into the Atlantic. It seemed to take a long time to get there. Once past Barra we launched the spinnaker, put the wind on the beam and started zig-...

We had the same problem with the autopilot while doing the 2 handed Shetland Round Britain and Ireland race. I checked all the fuses I could find and they were ok, looking at the Wiring diagrams didn't help at all. A phone call to the Dragonfly Agent didn't get any useful advice on this although he ...

RBI 2010 Progress

We arrived in Barra, Hebrides, having had a few problems on the way up from Kinsale in Southern Ireland. The jib sheet burst , possibly by contact with the front of the fiberglass housing on the coachroof.A temporary fix kept us racing and I shortened and retied what was now two sheets on arrival. W...

Royal Western YC Round Britain & Ireland Doublehanded Ra

Tim and myself are racing Cold Fusion Reloaded, DF35 no. 28 , in the RWYC Double Handed RBI race starting 6th June. We've added quite a lot of kit - AIS transceiver (Garmin) , HD Radar (Garmin), extra Chartplotter for the chart table (Garmin) to supplement the one on the coachroof, Satellite phone (...

We had the same problem on a previous boat, a D920 Hybrid. Despite thoughts that the lock was completely stuffed, washing it out with water removed the salt and following it up with WD40 made it as good as new. May not be the fix for you but worth trying.

I used to work with a marine communications company, I designed remote monitoring and control systems using Inmarsat and SSB but a lot of the business was supplying Inmarsat messaging systems so that world travellers could communicate with the outside world. We also supplied round the world racers i...

Laptops can suffer vibration problems which cause screen failure on even short trips. I'm a Software Engineer, I've desinged systems that go around the world or nearly in the case of Bransons Balloon, using Inmarsat or SSB for comms. I'm all in favour of gathering information. We do long races , 2 R...

I agree that cutting holes in bulkheads is nott he way to go. We had a half height perspex wash board and fitted a Garmin ChartPlotter into that. It had a 10" screen. When not in place it was located on the chart table where a slotted piece of wood held it in place. This was on a 920 Hybrid. It...

come on guys, talk about this amazing boat

I'm not the owner, I'm the other in 2 handed racing. We're taking delivery this week and I'm doing a lot of installation of electronics this coming weekend. It would be nice if D35 owners talked and I'm not seeing much at the moment. I'll publish my experiences but it would be good to hear from othe...

re. Asymmetric Spinnaker

Its one of 2 920 Hybrids that have been built ( no. 125 , Tim Wilson is the owner, I am the ballast ). It is basically a 920 extreme with the rig from the Touring, hence the buoyancy difference to the Touring . A friend had an extreme and reckoned it was hard to race in stronger winds, he has now re...

re. Asymmetric Spinnaker

I agree with the previous post but we've flown our Assymetric on a Dragonfly 920 Hybrid ( formerly Blue Minnell II now Cold Fusion ) in a very choppy Force 7 in the Solent, as long as you have plenty of time and space then its not a problem. We do have more bouyancy than a Touring though. Check out ...
