Any experience with a four stroke 6 hp?

I have asked this question in another thread, but it is pretty buried there. Anyway, I am looking for opinions from anyone who has real world experience using a 6hp outboard on their DF800 (either two or four stroke). I currently have an 8hp, but I am looking to replace it, and am interested in the ...

That would be great. I don't know if there is any way to email or contact posters? If not, hopefully he will check back on this thread.

Yeah Paul, that is my feeling as well. I appreciate your feedback.

I would love to hear from someone who actually has a four stroke 6hp and see what their experience has been though in windier conditions.

I am looking into getting a new motor as well, and was wondering how people had fared with 6hp 4 strokes? I have heard they are a little lacking in power, so was wondering specifically how they have performed in heavy wind, and chop conditions. I am looking specifically at a 25" shaft tohatsu 6...

I understand that, but I have seen 8mm lines of varying low stretch material ranging in breaking strengths from 7,000 pds. down to under 4,000 pds. I would guess that 4,000 pd. strength would be more than adequate, but there is a lot of force involved. I want to make sure the line will be adequate w...

I hadn't thought about that. Are you talking about Richard Suriani? Is there a website or would I just call him?

main halyard

Anybody know what the breaking strength requirements are for the 800 main halyard? I have the racing mast with a small square top added to the sail. There seems to be quite a range in breaking strengths between different dyneema and vectran lines, as well as price difference. Also has anybody tried ...

waterstays

Anybody have the specs for the DF 800 waterstays? I am looking to replace them and am trying to come up with a ballpark estimate. Is it 8mm dyform wire? If it is Dyform do I need to go up a size if the Dyform is no longer available to compensate for the weaker wire available now?

Thanks!

Exit blocks in mast

I had a question concerning the exit blocks in the mast for the reef lines. My boat just has a gaping hole there with four small holes around the perimeter just above the boom. I assume there was an exit block, or blocks here for the reef lines, that was riveted in. I was wondering if there was a sp...

Main halyard and quick link replacement questions

Actually two seperate questions for 800 R owner's from a new owner. First, I should have looked better when the mast was down, but it seems the angle from the head of the sail to mast sheave is pretty extreme when the sail is up, and I am having trouble getting good halyard tension. It ocurred to me...

holding tank

It appears I have a holding tank for the head on my 800, and was wondering if anyone new what the standard size of the tank was? I can't find anyway to access the tank, and can't imagine it's very big.

Thanks,
Dan T

Fiberglass repairs

I have a small crack in an ama that needs to be repaired on my 94' 800, and want to make sure I am using the right materials. I was told by someone that the boat was constructed with vinylester resin, which is hard to get, and apparently hard to work with. I found on a site somwhere that it was actu...

9.9 hp ok?

Just wondering what most people use for power on their 800's. I believe 8 hp 2 strokes are the norm, but I have an opportunity to buy a 9.9 2 stroke johnson for a pretty good price. I'm not sure of the weight yet, but I'm thinking it is in the mid 70's lbs. Thanks, Dan T

Lowering DF 800 racing mast

I just bought a 94' DF 800 racing, and need to drop the mast for the first time. I have the manual describing the method, but would love to hear any tips or pointers anyone might have. Also, I am missing one of the tubular units you are supposes to use in the procedure.

Thanks,
Dan T.

Thanks for the reply!

So do you recommend the boat? I am planning to primarily daysail with my wife and 3 small kids. I am thinking about an occasional overnighter which I know will be cramped, but hopefully possible.

Thanks,
Dan T.

DF 25 parts

I didn't see a DF 25 forum, so I guess this is the closest match. I am considering buying a 1990 contour built DF 25, and was wondering about the availabilty of parts for this boat should the need arise(I recall reading somewhere in this forum that rudders could be very difficult to replace). Is it ...
