Hi, I also have difficulty raising the mainsail and the problem is with the slugs. A full battened sail needs longer slugs at each batten as the twisting force of the batten makes them bind in the sail track. Lubricating works for one raising but wears off. My sail also binds when lowering. The slug...

Trailer

Hi All,

I need some advice on configuring a new trailer. My old trailer had bunks which I think give great support but make painting the bottom difficult. Are rollers suitable?

Hi Allan, I have my 25 on a single line on a mooring and its not great. The boat really slews back and forth when the wind is up. Very exciting to get on board in those conditions. Other posts I've red suggest a bridle is best with three lengths of line: one to each aka or the bow of the amas and on...

My boat has the split set-up with a shroud that splits, one length to a turnbuckle on the center of the ama and the other length to a purchase aft on the ama. I have also seen just a shroud and shroud with running backstays. The photos on the flickr page are helpful. Many of those I've seen on a swe...

Something like the ATN spinnaker sleeve makes short-handed or solo spinnaker use very easy.

Thanks Paul, I can picture it very well from your description. I think I will look for a carabiner. The boat is out of the water as I am painting it so the mast is down. I might be in by September to catch the last two months of the season. Procrastination may pay off as we are due for a hurricane o...

Maybe one of you guys could tell me what your 25/800 had for a forestay/shroud attachment. I have a welded ring but I would like to use a shackle. Not sure about the effect of side forces the shrouds would place on this piece. Thanks

Forestay attachment

The forestay attachment on my df 25 is a welded metal ring through the hound. Forestay and shrouds attach to this. I don't know its age and it has a small crack so I would like to replace it. Is a ring the usual piece of hardware or would a shackle suffice?

jib halyard

Hi Paul,

Surprising that you have no halyard. My df25 has an internal jib halyard and an external spinnaker halyard. Might not be too tough to add one.

Hi Paul,

I have a DF 25 and power with a Honda 8 (4 stroke). Moves the boat at 7 knots. Fairly quiet. I also have the alternator but it doesn't seem safe to use with a deep cycle battery so I never hooked it up.

Concerning your strong wind performance with the original main the other 25 owner I talked to said he wished he had kept his old sail for strong conditions as he thinks the square top main is too much sail.

Any chance you hit something? That is an odd spot for the damage. It looks like it radiates from the fastener. I believe raking the mast would add some weather helm, it makes the boat faster. I have a df 25 and another owner told me about the same phenomenon with rudder stall (I think that is the pr...

I have a Canadian built DF 25. The sides of the hull are not cored but the very bottom may be. It sound reasonable that you could make some small holes to investigate as this boat sound like it is in pretty bad condition and what are a couple of holes going to do? If the core is wet a 2mm hole would...

Thanks Ted, I like the idea of the individual bunks. As for gear in the amas there didn't appear to be anything in there when I was assembling the boat this summer. Hi Oscar, #3 is the way to go. The West System web site is a great resource for this procedure with illustrations. If you aren't insane for a perfect finish you could do this project pretty cheaply. Trailer rollers

I have a 25 and the trailer came with a bunk for the hull to sit on as opposed to rollers. The only issue is painting that section of the bottom. Any good reason to abandon the rollers? It looks like the trailer had them originally. Also the boat appears to sit a bit low in the water (judging by the...
