DF800 mk2 mast and AMA required

Hello all My Df800 mk2 Vamos had a serious incident when a 6 year old t-ball on the water stay gave way. Consequently I require a new mast and forward aka. I can't find the right aluminium section in Australia. My boat was made in South Africa in 2002. Can anyone help me with a supplier please? Rega...

Suggestions for 25 DF

My suggestions as an owner of a DF800 MK11 for 5 race seasons. - Design brief - Saturday racer with occasional camping if required. - Keep it simple. - Centerboards in the amas or offset lifting centerboard in cabin (more room in the cabin) - No traveller in the middle of the cockpit - Easy mast rai...

Storing a DF800 fully rigged

Hello MJF I usually de-rig my fixed wing DF800 each winter and tow it home but I have stored it fully rigged on the hard on 4 * 44 gallon drums and it has survived 45 knot winds. For extra security a drum on each side could be filled with water and the amas tied down to them using ratchet straps aro...

Self Tacking jib

Vimsa I don't think a jib that goes behind the mast could be made self tacking. Have a look at a Soling to see a good self tacking setup. I believe that you would need to get a jib with a shorter foot to make it work and I believe you would lose significant power as you would lose a lot of the effec...

Fitting a boom vang

Hello all I have a DF 800 Mk 2 with fixed wings. Even though there is a traveller for the main sheet I think it really needs a boom vang to control the shape of the sail. As it is the top of the sail tends to fall off too much in certain conditions. I would prefer a solid boom vang though a classic ...

Hello Ted, Choppy and Paul Thanks for your suggestions. My boat is a Dragonfly 800 fixed wing made in South Africa in 2002. I think the bow set up is different from the folding type. For a start I dont have a water tank. I think that I may go with Paul's suggestion but put a long bolt from one side ...

Hello Choppy

I would not like any weight in the transom. 800's can slow down appreciably if the stern digs in. Can't think of another location though.

Lifting DF800 fixed wing

Hello all

I have a DF800 fixed wing which I have antifouled on the trailer the last two years. Never again!

Can anyone tell me the weight of the main hull + mast please?

Also would the Pulpit be strong enough to lift the front of the boat + mast if the stern was supported?

Regards

I found this video clip of a model of the Dragonfly 1200 on YouTube. I have never seen a DF 1200 in the flesh but this seems pretty close to it except for fins on the amas.
