Batteries
The boiling battery probably has a short in one cell, effectively turning it into a 10 volt battery which is being overcharged, hence the gassing.
Replace them both.

That might be part of the problem, although the same quality is used on my main halyard. Loads on the main halyard are lighter I guess. But it's true that I sometimes open the easylocks without reloading the line first. Tensioning the fold-out line, releasing the lock and then winding and whinching ...

Problems with 8mm line
Unfortunately it turns out that the 8mm dyneema line I used has its sleeve completely 'eaten' by the easylock in just one season. The easylock seems to grip only the sleeve which eventually will tear and expose the dyneema core that starts slipping through the lock immediately. My chandler showed me...
Under previous ownership my 920 has capsized on the same stretch of water under similar circumstances (fast spinaker sailing without being overpressed). The previous owner was convinced that something like a hookup with a lobsterpot had to be at the base of that accident, though no trace was found. ...

DF's flying hulls
One is an F-32, 'Tresoor', built by Tom and Cora Siemerink.
The other is DF-28 ''Triple blue", property of Jaap de Geus.
I happen to own a picture of Triple Blue flying the hull coming of a wave. Can't post it here unfortunately.

Last winter I made a modification to my outboard (Yamaha 9.9) that was suggested on the f-boat site:

Haven't had enough time to test it's effect in full, will keep you posted. I already have the hi-trust propellor.

In my experience raising and lowering the mast is perfectly doable when you closely follow Quornings instructions. However, I always do it with the boat in the water and the tip of the mast on a ladder onshore. Carefully check each step and don't try it in a blow. The hard part is indeed getting the...

DF events in the Netherlands
Hi Pippo - welcome to the club!
There are no specific DF events that I know of but the Catamaran en Trimaranclub regularly organise events where Dragonfly's are well represented.
Take a look at the website www.ctcnederland.nl en maybe I'll see you at the rondje IJsselmeer in may next year!

You will always need the B+E licence. You need it when your car is lighter than your trailer and you need it when car+trailer>3500. Assuming boat+trailer are heavier than 1750kg, one of each conditions will always be met. So good luck bribing your driving examinator (sorry about that silly bigotted ...

I just took the most expensive 8mm my chandler carries, he calls it 'racing gold' for a reason I think ;-) It makes a big difference: I used to have to walk/jump on the trampoline to close the last centimetre. Now I can unfold completely just by winching. Last part of folding in, especially the seco...

My secret wish for an electric winch disappeared after replacing the 10mm swingwing line by 8mm dyneema. Reduces the required effort by about 50%! I guess the smaller diameter means I will have to replace it a bit sooner. It's worth that. I have the drill bit (but never bought the drill), you can ha...

different angles, different perspectives
I don't think a True Wind Angle of 35 is a realistic expectation. A tacking angle of 90 degrees, TWA =45 degrees, is more likely (quite neat, actually). This will result in an Apparent Wind Angle of 30-35 deg. Tacking angle should be judged by compass, not GPS. TWA of 45 degrees/ tacking angle of 90...

Failure of safety strut
If I read the report correctly, it was not the aluminium tube that broke. The tube remained intact but it was pushed through the beam. In other words, the back wall of the beam caved in under the pressure of the safety strut. Maybe because of previous collisions, after which only the front beam was ...

Leaks
My boat has water collecting right down the companionway next to the freshwater pump (port side). It seems two different leaks are responsible for this. 1. Rainwater dripping from the inside of the aluminium frame of the companionway hatch. This does not occur when the sprayhood is fitted, so I thin...

New df 28 at Dusseldorf
I saw the new 28 at the Boot show yesterday. I think Quorning succeeded in designing an attractive boat for starting trimaran sailors. It has a slightly smaller look and feel than a 920. It lacks the nice woodwork. But it is also cheaper and lighter, and a lot sightlier than the adjacent Corsairs. I...

I agree with Larry: in normal use, the beam should not hit back on the strut. It might happen in a heavy seaway (though I never noticed). No oval strutholes on my 10 years old DF920.

Recently I entered a lock together with 30 monohulls with a force six straight on the stern. It was not easy. However, I discovered that it is crucial not to let the boat gain any speed.
