Where is your GPS antenna?

Post by EarthBM »

I have one installed on the lower spreader and its reading does get affected in big waves - speed jumps erratically. Not a big deal, but now that I am looking to install an AIS transceiver, which is required to have its own GPS antenna, I want to place it somewhere on the deck. I am thinking under the dodger above the cabin. It will have the boom right above it, and may get in the way of sheets thrown there when docked.

Are there any other good places to mount it?

The GPS antenna for our AIS transceiver is mounted under the deck behind the instrument panel, it works fine.

Thanks! Really didn't want to drill the deck. Now need to figure out how to shorten the 10 meter GPS antenna cable.

Coil it somewhere, between the bulkhead and liner.
