Mast rotation?

Post by Stefan Kolmodin »

Hi,
I'm wondering how much to rotate the mast. For me it's both a security (the long unsupported top on the 800R mast bends a lot with wrong mast angle) and a performance issue. Does anyone know?

Not really sure, but

Saw this as a aerodynamic question, did alway rotate the mast to get a nice wing profile. That means rotating about 50 degrees to each side. A smooth profile from mast over to sail with no krack for turbulence.

According to manual:

Upwind - normal 45 degrees, hard wind 30 degrees, light wind 60 degrees
Halfwind - normal 60 degrees, hard wind 45 degrees, light wind 90 degrees
Downwind - 90 degrees

Tack Christian,

I found some good articles about this and have been field testing.
You can do a lot with an active rotation trim - increasing sail depth in light upwind for more power by rotating more and bending the battens and the opposite in strong wind.
