Sail cloth

Post by Fritz »

Hi all,
just wondering which material is your choice with respect to durability and performance.
I have an EPEX main from Elvstroem Sails, which is nice with respect to performance. However if reefing there is a lot tear and wear which lets me consider replacing it after another year.

So, please let me hear many of your ideas from Germany and all over Northern Europe. I have read about Gransail, but what about the other lofts?

Cheers

Fritz
Have a happy day on the water!

For material we also had membrane sails (gransegel) in our DF800 but those won't last in cruising use. Go for tri-radial laminate if you wish to have your sails in one piece more than 3 seasons.

For sail loft go for https://www.loongsails.com/
They have bought all the machines, loft etc from China Sail Factory (CSF) which was the biggest sailmaker in the world for years. Price is much better than in Europe and quality is perfect.

We had their jib which was perfect in shape and dimensions. It was made of dimension polyant GPL carbon laminate.

If you wish to have even more durability go for GPL liteskin.
