Towing eye access

Greetings as ever,
The trailer eye (U bolt on bow) has started to loosen - has anyone found best access to the inside of this ?
I was planning on "beefing" it up with glass & a decent backing plate - if not already there & a larger bolt - Any experience
I will try removing water filler cap to see if can get vertically down to it first, after that there is lots in the way via other routes - forestay chain plate being the most obvious.
