change the forestay and roller reefing ballbearings

Post by axon22 »

I want to replace the ball bearings of the roller reefing because it works when the rig is stretched very hard, I will also change the way the forestay. (20 years old)

Have you done this before, as they dismantled the upper ball bearing.

Now I have repaired the furler (top).
It is a product Bartels.

For photos using the link:

If you have the same furler that I can give the name of the ball bearings here you can see on the photos.

1x AXK 2542 SKF Axial Nadelkranz
2x AS2542 SKF Axialscheibe
2x 16004 SKF Rollenkugellager

I also have the lower side of the profile decomposed to conduct a comprehensive inspection.

New bearings

Post by JP »

I have just opened the bottom bearing case of the furler (original part is the Isofurl from Isomat). Looks like the one mentionned earlier by a DF1000 owner, same part numbers!
I will try to get the parts and reassamble this week.

JP Please post photos of the lower drum

I have DF 1000 #15 and have redone the upper bearings, but not the furling drum.
I'd really appreciate photos of your furler drum rebuild.
Thanks in advance,

Lower bearing replacement

Post by JP »

The furling drum and bearing case is back on the boat (DF SW800 No. 163 - 1990).
I bought the parts (same as described above) and made the exchange. You only change the bearings, two solid rings are reused at the same place and position.
Great improvement, might need now to do the same on the top bearing when I lower the mast next time.
Three pictures:
Please click on any of the photos to see them enlarged!

Dear Juergen (axon22),
I have the same top bearing on my DF800. I have also dismantled the housing from the forstay but did not yet managed to get the bearings out of the housing. How did you did it? Could you give me some hints, Please.

Thanks
Daniel
