Buying an old DF25 - some questions

Post by Laurent »

Hello,
I am new here and new to Dragonfly trimarans and I have a few questions.
I am on the verge of buying an OLD DF25 trimaran, from 1990, in the USA. The pictures are matching all other DF 25 of that generatiion EXCEPT that it has the swing wing mechanism.
I know that the folding amas firt appeared on the DF800 just prior to 1990.
I know also that most first generation DF25 did NOT have this option, however, the site sailbaotdata.com ;entioned that some of the last ones built may have it...
Finally, I know that some boats were built under license in Canada, and some "clones" like the Firefly or the Elan 7.7 appeared.

How do I make sure that this is a genuine DF25? The owner has not been able to locate a Manufacturer Plate on the boat... (where is it supposed to be located?)

What are the key areas I have to check for wear and tear, for this type of boat of that era?

Is the whole boat made of composite with foam core or are some areas with solid glass or balsa core?

In advance thank you for any expertise you can bring on this boat!

Checklist

(Just from top or my head)
1) Centerboard (from below) - I would like to take it out and have a look...
2) Rudder - fittings
3) Waterstays - fittings in hull
4) Hinges - the folding mechanism, and all blocks
5) Mastfoot
6) Forstay, both connection points
7) Mast - all connection points
8) Amas & hull - any cracks or damages
9) All fixed blocks for falls
10) Signs of water inside.

Any more? Anyone? This is just the first points that I thought off, did I miss something?

Buying an old DF25

Laurent, did you get the DF25?
PC Mould in Canada was making the DF25-SW in 1990, I don't know when their production stopped. I have DF25-SW KC-20, made in Canada.
