LIFTING EYES

Post by Diana »

We have always had our 920 lifted using the lifting eyes and rated strops until this time when one of the lifting eyes BROKE! The boat was three quarters of the way out of the water when the shaft of the forward port lifting eye sheared off.

Please click on any of the photos to see them enlarged!

Indicators?

Any waring signs? Bent? Rust? Age?

Maybe it is time to replace all eyes.

Lifting Eyes

No we didn't see any warning signs. There was no rust bleeding evident and all appeared as normal. We checked they were tight and aligned correctly just before the lift.

We have now replaced all 4 eyes with some new larger ones. Originals were 10mm diameter and the new ones are 12mm diameter.

What year is yours from?

Think I have to double check my eyes and maybe replace them.
Current boat-club lift the boats a long way - and high.

A failure would be a disaster...
