Compass position magnetic interference with fridge

Post by Fritz »

Recently bougth a 2004 DF. My compass is installed just above the floor of the cockpit thus being magnetically influenced by the fridge which sits under the cockpit floor.
I am thinking to remove my compass. Any suggestions where to better place it (wind, speed, depth panels forbid to use the space over the cabin entrance).
Any ideas - best with pictures - are welcome!
Have a happy day on the water!

Got an idea

I intend to place the compass behind the traveller bar.
Has anyone else done this?

Use the GPS

GPS gives you a true course. Use that.
The magnetic is nice for reference, but not very exact.
You could easily make a "deviationstabell" by just writing down true and magnetic values for all courses.
