DF35 anchor windlass overhaul
I have a Quick Crystal C1000 800 Watt anchor windlass on my DF35. This got salt water into the motor & needed repair. It is no longer made & Quick do not support it now. Here's what I did to overhaul it. Remove the headlining above the V berth. You can see the motor. Remove the end cap &...

Re: Heater place to build in
The combustion and cold air can enter from near the heater so no holes are required. The exhaust can exit near the heater through the hull as high as possible. The heated air outlets in the standard fit are port side near the floor below the table top/cupboard and in the heads compartment. It is not...

Re: BEWARE OF YOUR COACH BOLTS
This has happened to me as well. The problem is caused by stress crack corrosion, something which stainless steel suffers from in salt water. I suggest that everyone replaces all their beam bolts every 15 years. It's an easy job and the bolts are not expensive. Look on the spare parts page here to f...

Re: Sprayhood bar connectors
Have a look at the spare parts section of this forum under hinges. There are metal alternatives from www.makefast.com, parts numbers 1024 and 1041. Hello, I would like to change one of my sprayhood bar connectors which is cracked. The piece I want to replace is sitting on the aft sprayhood bar and n...

Replacing an Eberspacher D1LC with D2
Some early 920's were factory fitted with Eberspacher heating using the D1LC model. These are likely to be coming to the end of their life now but there is no direct replacement. The nearest is the D2. I have just done this replacement and this is what is involved: The mounting plate is the same. Yo...

Tohatsu 9.8hp replacement for Yamaha
For those with older 920's that came with the Yamaha engine there is a problem when it comes to engine replacement as Yamaha no longer make the 9.9 in extra long leg and the Honda needs hull modifications. However, there is now an easier solution! Tohatsu now produce at 9.8 in ultra long which has t...

Re: Bolt failure
It appears the DF35 has different fixings/bolts. On the DF920 they're indeed dome shaped The hinge arrangements on the 35 and 920 are different. There is no equivalent to my broken bolt on the 35. My bolts are fixed vertically and the dome head is on the top (or underside) surface of the beam or be...

Just an update if anyone is reading. I have spoken to a specialist mechanical engineer in fatigue failure where I work. Her advice was to replace all the similar bolts immediately. The one failed bolt was a warning that needs to be heeded. The total cost is about €100 so not too expensive to avoid a...

Hinge bolt failure
Check your bolts that connect the beam hinges to the beams and the hull. I had one snap for no apparent reason on my 920. These are the bolts with the shallow domed head. It looked fine from the outside, but inside the beam socket on the main hull I found one of the bolts had no nut on it any more. ...

All Seatalk devices are daisy-chained together using the proprietary Raymarine Seatalk cables. These have a slightly curved 3 way plug on the end of them. Somewhere there will be a power connection as well. Raymarine's way to connect is to use their cables and if necessary, one of their multiway ter...

Sail damage to a DF in Emsworth Pool
This was posted today (15th July) on another forum. Maybe someone knows whose boat this is... Just been to the club to check our boat is still on her mooring in these high winds and tides (left the boat in a hurry to beat the tide on Sunday evening and didn't do my usual thorough checks). Having a p...

Need new foam core batten
My 920 has a UK (the sailmakers) mainsail, which has foam cored battens, one of which is broken. Does anyone know of a United Kingdom supplier as UK (the sailmakers) cannot help. I am aware of the Austrian company FiberFoam, but they are not responding.

Re: Smell from toilet
A common problem when you get a smell from a toilet/holding tank is the large diameter pipe which goes from the toilet to the tank/outlet becoming slightly porous. They do this with age, it is unavoidable. To determine if your hose has become porous, do this... Find a cloth rag and dip it in water a...
